Card House

Card House (series), 2016–ongoing
T-shirts, glue

The Card House series is an array of site-specific installations utilizing handcrafted t-shirt modules placed in different structural arrangements and spatial relations. Each t-shirt module is carefully shaped to the form of corrugated iron a ubiquitous building material associated with industrial and vernacular architecture, mimicking the materiality of the houses in which the shirts’ producers dwell.

I began the Card House series while conducting preliminary research for an early-2016 residency in Dhaka. I was interested in the interrelated iron and ready-made garment industries in Bangladesh, both forming and formed by international economic relations. The convergence of the two production flows served as a starting point for understanding global supply chains and for tracing their effects on lived space.
