Domestic Realism, 2016
Refrigerator, photographic prints (10 x 15 cm), artist statement, magnets
Presented as part of the Self-Help-Academy within the framework of The OH-project, located at a former U.S. Navy base in Iceland, the site-specific installation appropriates a domestic visual format to explore questions about the implicit role women play as a support structure for the reproduction of everyday life within the military-industrial complex. The prints are composed of purchased stock photos of women doing housework, accompanied by feminist slogans to afford the images an alternate agency.
