Card House 2, 2017
Seven generic white t-shirts “Made in Bangladesh” take the form of corrugated iron, a ubiquitous building material associated with industrial and vernacular architecture. Posed against and stacked upon each other delicately, the t-shirts bear immanent potential for collapse.
Card House 2 builds on Card House (2016), a similar work that was created while conducting preliminary research for my early-2016 residency in Dhaka. I was interested in the interrelated iron and ready-made garment industries in Bangladesh, both forming and formed by international economic relations. The convergence of the two production flows served as a starting point for understanding the nation’s embeddedness within global supply chains and for tracing their effects on lived space.
